Academic Orientation

Academic Orientation or AO to be short, is the second orientation on the list. This orientation is quite unique cause it is basically a college simulation. In AO, we will experience first hand of our going-to-be college life. We start to get college-like schedules. We also start to learn some basics lessons that will be used later on like Algorithm for Computer Science major. Not just that, we also learn several useful tips on how to adapt with our college life such as making Mind Maps till doing great presentations.

During AO, students were also given some tasks such as making a blog about FEP (just like this) and making presentation. My team got to present about Blackberry OS. Not just that, we also got to make some simple program using C. Though it’s just a simple program but most of us got headache during this lesson.

The last day of AO includes a simulation of a test. My class got to do a programming test using C and a mobile-related test about mobile app idea. Though this is our first test, most of us couldn’t do it well. Even before D-day, we had practice programming together via direct or online. It seems that we still have a lot to learn, but it’s OK cause this experience in fact, tighten our relations so in the near future, we will do our best and help each other.

Through AO, students also learn about their own curriculum based on their majors. We can also know and meet our lecturers. There were some tips given by our lecturers such as making study groups and working as a class. Though this is just a simulation but there are certainly much lessons that I can get. After this AO finished, it’s time for us to start the real college. Wish us luck! Cheers!
